New Year resolutions don’t only have to apply to personal goals or aspirations. We all want to lose a few pounds, spend more time with family or plan that vacation we keep putting off. But what about your career? Your business? Are your ready for your best year?
Testing, Testing 123
Every year should be our best year ever, but that will only happen if you take the time to do a clinical assessment of the past year and set goals for the next. Why? Looking back with a critical and honest assessment of your successes and failures over the last year is crucial if you are going to continue to grow and thrive in the PDR industry. So where do you start? Take a look below and answer the questions that apply to your current career situation. You will notice that as a business owner you carry a heavier burden, most if not all questions will apply to you. Employees and contract workers, your list is shorter but no less important to your career goals.
Best case scenario you had an awesome year, you love what you do and the people you work with. Don’t get lazy though, figure out whatever it is that you did well and do it even better next year. For the rest of you that maybe didn’t have a year full of rainbows and lollipops, you need to own why, possibly make some tough choices, and seriously reinvest in yourself.
If you are an employee or subcontractor you may see that it is time to move on. How? Network your ass off. LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram are great platforms to let people see who you are and what your skill set is as well as keep tabs on opportunities that might be opening up. Or maybe it’s time to take the leap into your own business?!?
If you are a business owner, clear out the clutter(including non-profiting employees or accounts) double down and hustle hard. Invest in yourself, your brand, and your skill by taking advantage of extra training. Be it advanced PDR techniques, certifications or business management and marketing. This will give you an unbelievable competitive edge. Pour your energy into growing, being productive and walk away from anything that stands in the way of this.
PDR Trade Shows, Training and Tools
Make sure you attend at least one of the trade shows that our industry offers. The value from these cannot be quantified. This is where you learn everything that is new in the PDR industry. Skills, tools, and training abound! Speaking of training, given that quality training is hard to come by in Canada, take advantage of online learning from proven teaching tools like Dent Trainer and PDR College. Before investing in that next upgraded PDR tool, do your due diligence. What do the reviews say? Is it a quality, proven tool or a gimmick? My new favorite tool reviewer is Dent Tools Freak. This guy does not pull any punches no matter who made the tool. These are all great resources that should be utilized.
A Happy PDR Tech is a Successful Tech
All of the above-mentioned tools at your disposal will only work if you are happy. Remember though your happiness is dependant on you. You are in control of your goals, your aspirations and therefore your career. Don’t settle, learn from your mistakes and never stop investing in your career. All of this will help you have the best year ever…until the year after that.
